MEET Onyx
Once just a number on a euthanasia list, Onyx was waiting on a cold shelter floor at Contra Costa Animal Services—unsure if anyone would come for him. It’s hard to understand how a dog this gentle, this loving, could have come so close to losing his life simply because he was overlooked. Life hasn’t been kind to Onyx. He didn’t deserve to be abandoned, and he certainly didn’t deserve to feel invisible. And yet… his spirit never broke. Onyx is about 4 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. We believe he may be a Flat-Coated Retriever or Newfoundland mix—whatever his breed, he is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. He’s vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Despite everything, Onyx still loves people. He still trusts. He still leans in for affection and just wants to be close to someone who makes him feel safe. He can do well with other dogs when introduced properly, but more than anything, he’s craving a person to call his own.
What Onyx wants is simple, but powerful:
A home.
A soft place to rest.
A human who won’t give up on him.
He will give his whole heart to the person who chooses him—and he’ll spend every day proving just how much that love means.
If you can adopt, foster, or foster-to-adopt Onyx, please reach out to the rescue. And if you can’t, sharing his story could be the reason someone else does.
Please don’t let Onyx be overlooked again

Meet Paula
Just look at those adorable little legs—how could you not fall in love? But Paula’s beauty goes far beyond her looks… she has a gentle soul and a heart full of love just waiting to be shared. Paula was rescued from Contra Costa Animal Services just in time, narrowly escaping euthanasia. Now safe, she’s been given a second chance at life—but what she truly needs is a forever home where she can finally feel secure and loved. Paula has been through a lot. Because of her past, she is timid, shy, and struggles with trust. It’s clear she hasn’t always been treated with kindness. She needs a patient, compassionate person who will give her the time and understanding she deserves—someone willing to help her rebuild her trust and show her that not all humans will hurt her. This sweet girl is about 3 years old, a Lab/Staffordshire Terrier mix, and weighs just 28 lbs—making her the perfect medium-sized companion. Once she feels safe, Paula is incredibly affectionate and loves being close to her people. She also does wonderfully with other dogs, which can help her continue to build confidence. Paula is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed—completely ready to start her new life. She’s been given a second chance… now she just needs someone to choose her, to be patient with her, and to love her unconditionally.
If you’re interested in adopting, fostering, or fostering-to-adopt Paula, please reach out to the rescue.

Meet Pearl
Meet beautiful Pearl, our sweet Staffordshire Terrier mix rescued from the euthanasia list at Lancaster Animal Care Center. Pearl is around 3 years old and weighs approximately 66 lbs. She is vaccinated, microchipped, and will soon be spayed and ready for her forever home. We believe Pearl was sadly used for backyard breeding and then abandoned at the shelter after having puppies. She found herself scared, stressed, and alone on a cold shelter floor, missing her babies. We couldn’t leave her behind. Despite everything she’s been through, Pearl is incredibly loving and resilient. She knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and gets along well with people and other dogs. Pearl deserves a family who will love her unconditionally and give her the safe, happy life she has always deserved. If you are interested in adopting Pearl (once she is spayed), fostering to adopt, or fostering, please contact the rescue for more information.

Rocky
Meet Rocky, our Contra Costa Animal Services survivor. Rocky was rescued just minutes before being euthanized after arriving at the shelter as a stray. The shelter environment was confusing, scary, and stressful for him—but even through it all, Rocky showed nothing but kindness. He remained friendly with staff and other dogs and quickly became everyone’s favorite. Rocky is a 3.5-year-old Bull Terrier mix, weighing about 50 lbs. He is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Rocky is great with people and other dogs and absolutely loves to play with his canine friends. He is house trained, great with kids, handles very well on the leash. He is so eager to learn and please. He’s a happy, loving boy who is ready to leave his past behind and start a new chapter. Rocky truly deserves the very best—a loving forever home where he will be cherished as part of the family. If you are interested in adopting or foster-to-adopt Rocky, please contact the rescue.

Rocky
Meet ROCKY, our sweet senior Labrador mix At 8 years old, Rocky never imagined he’d end up alone in a shelter, lying on a cold floor, confused and heartbroken. He doesn’t understand what happened or why he lost the life he once knew—but he’s holding onto hope for a second chance. Rocky is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is about 45 lbs. He does well with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a patient, loving home. Like many dogs who’ve been through trauma, Rocky experiences some separation anxiety, but with time, consistency, and reassurance, he will learn he’s safe and won’t be abandoned again. We believe Rocky may have experienced abuse in the past, particularly from a male figure, so he can be a bit nervous around some men. With gentle guidance and understanding, Rocky shows just how sweet and loving he truly is. This boy has been through so much, and all he wants now is a calm, secure home where he can finally relax and be loved the way he deserves. If you’re interested in adopting or fostering to adopt Rocky, please contact the rescue. If you want, I can make a shorter Instagram version or add hashtags to help him get more visibility
